In the summer of 2025, I was able to work with the ODU Wetland Plant and Restoration Lab assisting in research with graduate students working in the Great Dismal Swamp

Bald Cypress Restoration

The Great Dismal Swamp has a restoration goal for the native Bald Cypress; however, the tenacious Red Maple have started overtaking the swamp making restoration difficult. Our research looked at how to incorporate Red Maple populations to aid Bald Cypress restoration efforts.
Getting to be a part of this project taught me how to conduct research, how to manage a team in the field, and how to translate raw data points into helpful ecological management strategies.
